Position Size & R-Multiple Calculator

Enter your account size, the percent you're willing to risk on this trade, and your entry and stop prices. This tool turns a fixed-fraction risk budget into an exact share count, then maps out where price sits at 1R, 2R and 3R — so every trade risks the same slice of your account, whatever the share price or however wide the stop.

An R-multiple states profit and loss in units of your initial risk: 1R is the dollar amount you lose if price reaches your stop, so a 3R target is three times that distance from entry. Sizing by a fixed fraction of your account — shares = (account × risk%) ÷ |entry − stop| — keeps every loss roughly equal regardless of the stock's price or how wide the stop is, which is what lets a strategy stay profitable while winning well under half its trades. Shares are rounded down to whole units, so realized risk sits slightly below the budget. This tool sizes risk from the numbers you type; it does not judge the trade, predict direction, or account for slippage, gaps, commissions, overnight risk, or a stop that fails to fill at your price. It sizes risk — it is not a recommendation to take the trade. Educational only - not investment advice.
